Basic Instruction - We teach the NRA Basic Firearm Safety Course.

This course is open to all firearms enthusiasts over the age of 21.  This age restriction is a result of Federal Laws, it is unlawfull to sell a handgun to anyone under the age of 21 or give a handgun to anyone under 21 years of age.  Our interputation - we are not allowed to provide anyone under 21 a handgun in a classroom setting or allowed to let them handle a handgun in a classroom environment, except as noted below.

Exception to this class eligibility policy will be with a written waiver from a parent or legal guardian for those under 21 years of age.

CCW Renewals - The DPS will accept applications for CCW renewals 90 days prior to an individuals' CCW expiration date.  Therefore, if your permit expires on October 4, 1998, the DPS will not accept your renewal application prior to July 4, 1998.

Who Has to Take a CCW Renewal Class - all current CCW holders who's licenses are due to expire within 90 days.  Special note to retired Law Enforcement Officers - If you are currently a retired law enforcement officer, with a minimum of 10 years service, who was exempt from the original 16 hours class, you must take the 4 hour renewal class.

Class Objectives

  1. Know the legal justification and responsibility for using deadly physical force
  2. Know the legal requirements and obligations for carrying a concealed weapon
  3. Know the limits on where a concealed weapon can be carried
  4. Know the penalties for domestic violence convictions
  5. Be aware of the Federal Gun-Free School Zone law
  6. Be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of appropriate statutes in judgmental use of force situations
  7. Be able to list the four basic rules of safe gun handling
  8. Be aware of the need to safeguard weapons outside the home
  9. Successfully complete a written test with a score of at least 70%
  10. Successfully qualify with a handgun
